Every company in a group needs roughly the same things: a way to see its numbers, a way to move information between people, a way to automate the parts of the work that should not require a person. Built once and built properly, those become an advantage the next company inherits on day one.
The discipline is knowing where sharing stops. A common reporting layer is leverage; a common customer experience imposed on unrelated businesses is a tax.
